For two years in a row, the honor of being named the Texas State Cheerleader of the Year has gone to two Frenship cheerleaders who share more than a love of the sport, they share the same last name. Kendal Snuggs took home the title for the 2017-2018 school year. One year later, her younger sister, Reagan Snuggs, was the first junior from Frenship High School to take home the same title.
Coach Kayci Smith said having both sisters win back to back years was so exciting. “I love that her and her sister both received this award,” Smith said, “and to do it back to back is just amazing. As a Coach, they are the types of athletes you pray to have as leaders on your team. The kind that wants the very best for their team and always puts the team first. ”
Reagan said she and her sister have cheered together for years, and getting to share so many experiences with her has been special, but getting to share the title of Texas State Cheerleader of the Year was such an honor.
“I feel so grateful to receive the Cheerleader of the Year award,” Snuggs said. “It truly means the world to me to be honored in this way, especially after my sister won it last year. She’s a huge role model to me and I’ve been so blessed to be able to cheer alongside her for multiple years.”
The FHS Cheer team has collected numerous awards over the years. Smith said she is thankful for a program that gives her athletes the opportunity to be recognized for their hard work and dedication to the sport.
“I am so thankful for the Texas Girls Coaches Association for recognizing cheerleaders as true athletes,” smith said, “and allowing them to be seen and honored just as equally.”
