In the first week of the district season, the FHS softball team combined a blowout win with extra-inning dramatics to end the week with two victories in two tries.
The Tigers wasted no time last Tuesday jumping out and running away from visiting Odessa Permian, scoring multiple runs in every inning and cruising to a 13-3 run-rule victory. Erin Boles went 3-for-3 with a home run and Claudia Kerr added two hits. Torrey Hogan was the winning pitcher after a seven-strikeout performance.
It took 10 innings on Friday in Midland for the Tigers to finally capture a win, but FHS scored three in the final frame to pull ahead and hold off Midland Lee 10-8. Claudia Kerr’s double proved to be the big hit in the three-run tenth. Kerr (3-for-5), Boles (HR), Maya Mongelli and Kyla Merritt all had multiple hits for the Tigers. Torrey Hogan pitched all ten innings to earn another win. She struck out five Lady Rebel batters.
FHS is now 19-6 and 2-0 in district. They are on the home diamond Tuesday vs Odessa High at 6:30 before heading to Midland High Friday.
