The Tigers came into the matchup at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium in Canyon, TX with the first back-to-back victories of the Jay Northcutt era under their belts and looking for another first. They got it with a 35-10 victory, earning Northcutt his first true road win and improving the Tigers 2019 record to 4-1 as they head into a bye week.
For the second time in as many weeks, the Frenship Tiger defense held their opponent to less than 170 yards of total offense, only allowing 167 yards to the Canyon Randall Raiders. Frenship was led defensively by Alyjah Garcia with 5 tackles and 1 tackle for loss and Tristan Laughlin tallied 3 tackles and 8 assists. Cayson Brito and Evan Barboza each contributed a tackle for lass as well on the day. At one point in the second quarter, the defense found themselves with their backs against the Raider goal line and made back-to-back goal-line stands after an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty gave Randall a new set of downs and the Tigers held strong again and forced a field goal.
The Frenship passing attack struggled to find consistency throughout the contest but the rushing attack, led by senior running back William Bayouth, was there to pick up the slack. Bayouth finished the day with 21 rushes for 125 yards, and 2 touchdowns and Erin Brown also chipped in a touchdown as well.
Senior quarterback Donovan Smith went 22/32 for 229 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. Drew Hocutt once again led the way receiving after a 200+ yard performance last week earned him Lone Star Varsity Male Athlete of the Week honors. This week, Hocutt tallied 10 catches for 114 yards and 2 touchdowns, one of which came on an impressive 69-yard pass and catch.
The Tigers are idle this week as they prepare for their District 2-6A opener against state-ranked Midland Lee on the road at Grande Communications Stadium in Midland on October 11th. That game will kick off at 7:30 pm with Keith Patrick and Chois Woodman on the call on DoubleT 97.3 FM, www.doublet973.com, or the DoubleT 97.3 mobile app. The Lubbock Truck Sales Pregame show will be live at 7:00 pm.
