The Frenship Girls Basketball Team is off to a hot start in 2019 and put that record on the line last weekend as they faced stiff competition in the FWISD Cowtown Classic. Before hitting the hardwood, these ladies took in an NBA game featuring Texas Tech and Lubbock Coronado product Jarrett Culver of the Minnesota Timberwolves against the Dallas Mavericks.
The Lady Tigers opened play against Mesquite Horn and came back from an early deficit to lead 33-28 going into halftime. It was tight down the stretch, but the Tigers earned a 67-58 opening victory and advanced to face Plano on Friday morning. A back-and-forth first half evolved into a 14-22 Tiger deficit heading into halftime and Frenship was unable to recover. They fell to #5 Plano 36-49 and moved into the 5th place bracket.
It wasn’t over yet for these ladies and they brought the thunder against Dallas Skyline leading 33-7 at the end of the first quarter and never looking back. A 46-21 halftime lead translated into a 77-52 Frenship victory. This set up a Saturday showdown with Arlington Lamar for 5th place in an extremely difficult tournament, the Tigers emerged victorious 43-31 behind 13 points by Avery Walker-Henry, and headed back to Wolfforth with an 11-3 record on the season.
Maci Maddox was named to the All-Tournament team and contributed 15 points to the Lady Tigers’ opening victory over Mesquite Horn. The Tigers will be back in action Tuesday, December 10 at 6:00 pm in the Tiger Pit hosting the Seminole Maidens. Follow Frenship Girls Basketball on Twitter @FrenshipGBB for news and updates.
