Frenship Students Recognized for Outstanding Achievements

Willow Bend Fourth Grader Excels to National Spanish Spelling Bee

In July, Willow Bend fourth-grader Alejandro Saenz Martinez will head to Denver, Colorado to compete in the National Spanish Spelling Bee. Martinez is the second student in Frenship’s history to make it to the national competition.

Before his debut that landed him a spot in the nationals, Martinez competed against other Frenship elementary and middle school students in a district-wide Spanish spelling bee. Only eight of the 18 Frenship students advanced to the area competition hosted on November 2nd by Texas Tech University’s Sigma Delta Pi, a collegiate Hispanic Honor Society. During the area competition, Martinez placed second and is one of two area students who will compete in the National Spanish Spelling Bee this summer.
