The South Plains Police Chiefs Association rounded up the local chiefs from Lubbock Police Department, Slaton Police Department, Lubbock Independent School District, Frenship Independent School District and more. Their mission: Brighten the day for the children spending the holidays in the hospital.
Frenship Police Chief, Roy Bassett, joined a dozen other police chiefs from the surrounding communities to visit multiple boys and girls at University Medical Center. Loaded with dozens of stuffed animals, each chief walked into a room to deliver a special toy and bring a smile to a child's face.
Each room had a different family, a different child and a different story. Some children had just received small procedures and would be out of the hospital in a few days. Others had been there for a while and weren't quite sure when they would be leaving.
No matter the situation, each family was grateful for a simple visit and stuffed animal for their child.
"This is what it's all about," said Bassett. "A small and simple act of kindness can really make a difference in someone's life."
