They’re seeking their 14th consecutive playoff appearance and got off to a strong start last weekend going 5-0 in one of the most respected tournaments in Texas.
The Tigers took down Cedar Ridge 11-8 Thursday evening followed by a 9-5 victory over Round Rock and an 11-0 walloping of Austin McNeil on Friday. Perhaps the most memorable games of the weekend came on Saturday. In the 10:00 am game versus LD Bell, the Tigers and the Blue Raiders were knotted up 8-8 when Clayton Echols led off with a line-drive single to second base. Echols stole second and, following a balk by the Bell pitcher, moved to third putting the winning run 90 feet away. Daniel Garza worked a walk to put runners on the corners and following a strikeout, Coldon Kiser stepped up to the plate for the Tigers. He sends a first pitch towering shot over the left field fence and walks it off for Frenship 8-11.
In the afternoon game, Troy Nations was on the mound late and strikes out the final batter of the 7th to head to extra innings. The Tigers works back-to-back walks and a bunt laid down by Blaine Hiner causes an error by the Stony Point pitcher scoring two Tigers. Hiner then touches home on an RBI single by Coldon Kiser. The Stony Point Tigers scratch two runs across to close the score to 7-6 but Brady Wolfe comes in with one out on a mission to save. He fields the groundout himself for the second out and fans the final batter for the win.
The Tigers will take their 5-0 record to the DFW Clash March 5-7 where they will face off with some of the state’s other consistently powerful programs. Frenship will face Flower Mound, Bridgeland, Carroll, Wylie, Guyer, and Wakeland on the weekend. Frenship’s next home games will begin on Thursday, March 12 as they once again host the First Bank Classic at Tiger Field.
