Frenship Tiger Athletes Resume Competition

On March 14, 2020, Frenship Baseball split a doubleheader at Tiger Field, defeating the Monterey Plainsmen and dropping a squeaker to the Lubbock High Westerners. The Tigers finished the day at 11-4 on the season and their record remained unchanged from that point forward. It wasn’t clear at the time, but the practically unmanageable pace of change over the ensuing days saw the extension of Spring Break and ultimately the cancellation of spring sports seasons across the State of Texas.

As society learned to mitigate the risks posed by COVID-19, guidelines were established by the University Interscholastic League (UIL), the governing body of public school sports in Texas. Students returned to modified strength and conditioning activities over the summer that were focused on disinfecting practices, social distancing, and following face covering guidelines. In Frenship, coaches banded together to move weight rooms into larger areas like gyms and the indoor turf facility to facilitate social distancing.

Students have now returned to school either in person, or through virtual learning and Frenship ISD remains committed to the disinfecting and personal safety protocols required to ensure a safe learning and competition environment exists. This week, the next step in the process of reclaiming the sense of “normal” that many long for lies before us.

Frenship Tiger Tennis will open their season on Tuesday, September 8 as they host the Lubbock-Cooper Pirates at 4:00 pm at the Frenship Athletic Complex in the first varsity competition since that day of baseball in March that feels like a lifetime ago.

As with all Frenship activities, face covering guidelines must be followed and social distancing is in effect. For all information regarding COVID-19 related changes at Frenship Athletic events please visit the Frenship Sports Zone for the most up-to-date information.
