“I am so proud of the improvement of our team from last year to this year.  The difference is night and day,” said Head Coach Roger Whipkey. “A big part of that is due to the leadership and work ethic of the three seniors on varsity: Lainey Cristan, Kelsey Roberson and Katie Castellano. We are a very young team and the impact they have on the underclassmen cannot be overstated.”

Frenship’s varsity team competed in three tournaments this fall and placed second in the Amarillo Tournament which took place and the Amarillo and Tascosa Country Clubs. Lainey Cristan placed third in the Red Raider Classic at The Rawls Course and Shadow Hills, finishing the last round with a 1 under par 71. Cristan also took the individual championship at the Amarillo Invitational shooting a 77 on the final day at Amarillo Country Club, arguably the most difficult course in the area.

Competitive golf requires significant time and dedication to improvement long before playing on school teams. The success and leadership of the varsity teams’ three seniors has led to growth in younger players who constitute the future of the program. Whipkey has been pleased to see ongoing growth in those younger players as he looks toward the future.

“My message to the younger golfers in the program and those young ladies who aspire to be part of Tiger Girls Golf is to start young and dream big,” said Whipkey. “Golf is a great game that you can play all of your life. The game teaches honesty, competitiveness, and strong work ethic.”
