On Friday, December 11, the Tigers faced Amarillo Tascosa. The Tigers started strong when Jeb Smallwood drained a three-point basket followed quickly by a fast break that resulted in 2 more points. The Tigers defense held Tascosa to only 7 points in the first quarter, where the offense shone with an impressive 21 points.
The Tigers held the lead all the way through the second quarter. After the half, TJ Miller opened the 3rd quarter with three points right off the bat.
The Tigers ended the game on top, 66-48.
On Saturday, December 12, Frenship competed against the Trinity Christian Lions. The Tigers started the energetic first quarter with a steal by Devin Hartfield that resulted in a goal for 2 points, followed quickly by a second Hartfield steal with another 2 points added.
The Tigers held the Lions in the first quarter to build a 10-point lead, 25-15. The Lions outscored the Tigers in the second, third and fourth quarters, but the Tigers early lead and impressive 17 steals held them through to a victory, 75-50.
On Tuesday, December 15, the Tigers took on the Estacado Matadors at the Tiger Pit. The first quarter was a tight contest, but the Tigers started the second quarter with a three-point lead, 21-18. The Matadors pulled ahead in the second quarter, but TJ Miller drained a shot for three points. After tossing the lead back and forth, Lincon Parrott scored from the outside for three points, pushing the Tigers into the lead for the rest of the contest.
The Tigers secured the W and ended the game 86-75 over the Matadors.
Frenship Boys Basketball Head Coach, Paul Page, said he is excited to finish the pre-season and move into District play next week.
“Our pre-district schedule has been tough, and really good for us, as we have been challenged and forced to compete at a very high level,” Page said. “Our senior returners, Devin Hartfield and Jeb Smallwood have really been important to us as they have been consistent contributors on both ends every game. We have gotten really good contributions from our other returners including Tracy Godfrey, Tajavis Miller and Lincon Parrott. Sophomore Tate Beeles has added a much needed spark for us in some very important moments in recent games.”
The Tigers play the Lubbock-Cooper Pirates this Friday in Woodrow at 5:30 p.m and move into District play on January 1 when they play Abilene High.
