Frenship Boys Varsity Soccer
Frenship Boys Soccer traveled to Permian High School on Friday, January 29. The Varsity Boys lost the match 1-0 against the Panthers.
Scott Smith, Frenship Head Boys Soccer Coach, said, “The biggest aspect of our growth this year is focusing on our ability to manage the adversity when it comes–to not let go of our organization and game plan if we’re not on the scoreboard early, or if the opposition is doing their part to stop us. In the Permian game, unfortunately, we let the stress of not scoring get to us.”
The Varsity Boys found their rhythm on their home field on Tuesday, February 2 against Midland Lee. Scott said, “In the Midland Lee game, we managed that same adversity a million times better, and because of that, once we did eventually get on the scoreboard, the confidence grew, and we were calm and composed thereafter.”
Calmness and confidence in the face of adversity is what Coach Smith hopes to continue to instill in his team as they progress through district play.
Frenship Boys Soccer takes on Abilene High in Abilene on February 5th.
Frenship Girls Varsity Soccer
Frenship Girls Soccer traveled to the Permian Basin to play the Permian High School Panthers on Friday, January 29th. The Tigers did well defensively to shut down the Panthers. However, one long made shot from the Panthers cost the Tigers the match. Frenship lost 1-0.
The Varsity Girls Soccer team played at home against Midland Lee on Tuesday, February 2. Again, the Tigers played well defensively but could not find the back of the net. The match ended 0-0.
Lauren Denning, Frenship Head Girls Soccer Coach, said, “We are definitely struggling to find our rhythm in district so far. We are still looking for that final pass or that final movement or that final shot to really establish our game plan. We are moving the ball well and possessing the ball around the opposition, but we are working on and need to solve the problem of scoring.”
In order to solve the scoring problem, Coach Denning is asking girls to try new positions. Overall, her team is stepping up to every challenge and competing well. Denning said, “We will continue to make improvements and get better every day in practice and let the results come from that.”
Frenship Girls Soccer takes on Abilene High in Abilene on February 5th.
