Tiger Girls Basketball Set for Bi-District Bout

Frenship Tiger Girls Basketball (20-5, 11-1) locked up the outright District 2-6A Championship Friday evening in their final regular season game as they took down the Midland High Lady Bulldogs 70-52 in the Tiger Pit. That marks the fifth consecutive season the Tigers have won at least a share of the crown and the third season running as outright District Champs. This marks the 13th District Championship in Tiger history dating back to the 1966 season and the sixth outright title in that span.

Frenship was led by senior Airron Gaydon who knocked down 4 threes in the first half for her 12 points. Freshman guard Abbi Holder chipped in 10 as did junior Addison McClure and freshman Abby Boyce added 8 more.

Tiger history looms large in a program with three straight 30-win seasons and Regional Tournament berths on their resume.

When asked about the weight of program success and how it effects the team, Head Coach Trent Hilliard replied, “I think our kids take a lot of pride in the successes that Frenship girls basketball has had in the past.  Some of them have had older sisters that have been a part of that success.”

Hilliard, who celebrated his 400th victory as a Head Coach earlier this season went on, “the old saying that ‘Tradition Never Graduates’ is perfect for us. We strive to match and exceed what the teams before us have done.  We celebrate what Coach Tipton and Coach Lowrey established here – it is what makes Frenship Girls Basketball such a special place. The trophies and the banners are not only reminders of the expectations but also reminders that we have lots of people who are pulling for us to do and experience what they were able to do.”

The Tigers match up schedule for Friday against the El Paso Eastwood Lady Troopers is postponed due to inclement weather.
