Frenship Girls Soccer played on Monday, February 22 against Odessa High at People’s Bank Stadium. Head Coach, Lauren Denning, said the game was rough after so much time out of practice.
“We started strong but got sluggish and were not making good decisions on either side of the field,” Denning said. “Knowing we had no practice time to really analyze and dive into fixing the problems placed a lot of the responsibility to respond on the girls for the Tuesday game.”
The Tigers played again on Tuesday, February 23 against Odessa Permian at home. Denning said the girls came out more ready to play.
“They came out fighting and we were able to get a goal back and then fought the rest of the game,” Denning said. “That is what we want to carry into our games later this week. Long term success is more about the character shown in your response to difficulties.”
The girls played against Midland High on Thursday in Midland and are slated to battle against Midland Lee tonight.
The final District game is quickly approaching on March 16, with playoffs starting the next week for the top four teams in the District. It is a single elimination bracket, followed by Bi-District play, Area, Regional Quarterfinals, Regional Finals, and then the State round.
“We are trying to use the depth that we have with our team and our players to spread out the work load during this heavy stretch,” Denning said. “We are looking at using our rest days to recover and learn from our mistakes in previous games.”
The Frenship Boys soccer team will also compete in a handful of matches in a short amount of time. They played Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and are set to play again tonight, also in Midland. They also play against San Angelo Central in San Angelo next Monday and Abilene High on Tuesday at home.
