This week the Tigers will play in the 38th annual First Bank Classic Tournament hosted by Lubbock ISD. The tournament will be played in six different locations across Lubbock and Wolfforth, Lubbock Coronado’s Obanion Field, Lubbock Estacado’s Matador Field, Lubbock High’s Westerner Field, Lubbock Monterey’s Moegle Field, Lubbock-Cooper’s Baseball Complex, and our very own Tiger Field at Frenship.
Ten teams will compete in the three-day tournament including, Frenship, Lubbock-Cooper, Lubbock Coronado, Lubbock Estacado, Lubbock High, Lubbock Monterey, Canyon Randall, Odessa Permian, Plainview High, and San Angelo Central. Each team will play in a minimum of five games, and two of those games hold a little extra importance for Frenship.
Frenship Baseball Head Coach Chad Reynolds said the games against Odessa Permian and San Angelo Central will count as District 2-6A games.
“Playing a district game this early is not ideal, but we are getting to play,” Reynolds said, hinting at the fact that last year during this tournament COVID-19 had just begun to shut things down. “We are excited to just get to play.”
Reynolds said he is excited to see what his team will do in this weekend’s tournament.
“We try to put our players in the toughest situations possible early in the season,” Reynolds said. “During these weekend tournaments we play some of the best teams in Texas and we always realize when we are done with tournament season what we have to do to compete at the highest level.”
