Frenship Tigers Come Back Strong After Halftime to Defeat Mustangs

Frenship had an uneasy start in the season opener against Coronado last Friday evening. The Tigers were forced to punt after their first three possessions, eventually providing to a two-touchdown lead by the Mustangs.

Frenship Head Football Coach Jay Northcutt said at the half, the Tigers discussion in the locker room was simple – go out and get the job done. The Tigers came back to the field ready to do just that.

Right off the bat, junior wide receiver Tate Beeles had a phenomenal one-handed touchdown catch from a beautiful pass by senior quarterback Chad Pharies, helping the Tigers momentum spark even more, followed by two additional touchdowns by Beeles.

On defense Tigers’ linebacker Lincoln Parrott sealed the deal for Frenship with an interception in the endzone with a little over four minutes left in the game.

We never felt like we couldn't come back,” Northcutt said. “Players didn't lose their heads when we were down, and we did a great job of continuing to play the next play.  It was a very physical game and our boys showed they were up for that challenge.”

The Pharies-Beeles magic was apparent all evening as Beeles had six catches for 104 yards. Northcutt expressed how proud his team made him that night.

“Tate Beeles tied a school record with three touchdowns in a game, he was our spark on offense,” Northcutt said. “Lincoln Parrott had a big game on defense with an interception, forced fumble and many tackles.”

Northcutt said that the team likes to work on one game at a time and next up is Clovis High School on Friday.

“We are focused on playing our best against Clovis this week,” Northcutt said. “We have to eliminate penalties. We had 175 yards of penalties last week, so that is the big focus this week.”

Northcutt added that the first home game is always something special but this past week was exceptional.

"I would like to thank Frenship Nation for coming out and creating an awesome atmosphere for the game," Northcutt said. "GO TIGERS!"

The game starts at 7:00 p.m. at Peoples Bank Stadium. You can purchase your tickets online HERE or at the gate.
