Frenship Girls and Boys Basketball Dominating in District 2-6A

It was a busy Winter Break for Frenship Tiger Basketball with both teams competing in the 62nd Annual AMBUCS Caprock Classic, the world’s largest high school basketball tournament. Both teams will be off on Friday, January 7 and will be back at it at home in the Tiger Pit on Tuesday, January 11 hosting Odessa High. Girls Basketball

Frenship Girls Basketball (18-5, 4-0) has seen action in seven games since the last installment of Tiger Tales, going 6-1 over that span. The Tigers notched a 64-40 road victory over Odessa Permian on Friday, December 17 and followed with a 39-30 home win over Midland Legacy to remain undefeated in District 2-6A.

Frenship followed with four games in the AMBUCS Caprock Classic where they dismantled the Pecos Lady Eagles 87-11, fell to Lake Dallas 44-54, took down Stephenville 73-51, and closed out with a win over Rockwall 56-49. Mikah Chapman was named to the Caprock All-Tournament Team and was one rebound shy of recording 3 double-doubles over the Tigers’ four games.

Most recently, Frenship traveled to Abilene in a return to District 2-6A action on Tuesday, January 4 and the Tigers took down the Lady Eagles 75-22. Frenship’s stifling defense dominated Abilene High from start to finish. Abilene High faced a deficit of 24-0 before netting their first bucket. Four Tigers broke into double-digit scoring with Andie Caddel leading the way with 17, Chapman was excellent in the paint once again with 14, Abbi Holder followed with 13, and Chandler Wilson chipped in 12.

Frenship has risen to #13 in the Texas 6A MaxPreps rankings and are currently #25 in the TABC polls.

Boys Basketball

Tiger Boys Basketball (20-2, 2-0) has also seen action in seven games since Tiger Tales last hit your inbox and they have also gone 6-1 over the span. Frenship took down a strong Trinity Christian team 80-58 on Friday, December 17 and opened District 2-6A play with a 74-59 victory over Midland Legacy the following Tuesday.

The Tigers also competed in the AMBUCS Caprock Classic where they went 3-1 taking down El Paso Bel Air 69-31, Lubbock Monterey 71-66, and Odessa High 61-49. Frenship fell 56-57 in the tournament championship game to DeSoto.

Jalen Braziel and Tajavis Miller were both named to the All-Tournament Team. Braziel led all Tigers with 70 points scored in the tournament and chipped in 6 steals and 13 boards. Miller, who scored 45 points across the four games, notched 25 rebounds and led the Tigers with 7 steals. Tracy Godfrey’s physical play in the paint earned him Tournament Co-MVP honors. He led the Tigers with 35 rebounds and 5 blocks and also tallied 68 points scored at a team-leading 60.4% clip.

This marks the third tournament championship appearance for Frenship this season and their first loss in one. The Tigers won the Gene Messer Tipoff Classic and the C.W. Jackson Cedar Hill Lions Club tournament as well.

Frenship returned to District 2-6A action on Tuesday, January 4 in Abilene. It was tight in the opening minutes, but Frenship quickly overpowered the Eagles and cruised to a 99-59 victory. The Tigers’ defense demolished Abilene High opportunities again and again, often forcing turnovers in multiple consecutive series before the Eagles could cross midcourt. Three Tigers finished in double figures with Braziel notching 23 and Godfrey 20. But the story of the evening was the offensive explosion from junior Tate Beeles. He scored a season high 33 points going 13-15 from the field (90%) and 6-6 from the charity stripe. Beeles also chipped in 2 rebounds, 3 deflections, and 6 steals in 25 minutes on the floor.

Frenship has risen to #14 in the Texas 6A MaxPreps rankings.
