At the meet, the top four in each weight class advanced to the Regional Tournament. On the boys side of things five athletes qualified for Regionals.
"With an outstanding showing the guys qualified 5, led by District Champion senior Shane Williams," Frenship Wrestling Head Coach Clinton Wood said. "Other placers included runner-up junior Vincent Garcia, 3rd place freshman Noah Zuniga, 3rd place junior Vincent Sandoval, and 3rd place junior Isaiah Kema."
The girls made history by bringing home Frenship's first wrestling District Championship, and qualifying 6 for the Regional Tournament.
"Returning State Qualifier senior Allie Bennett, not only repeated as district champ, she also brought home the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler Award," Wood said. "Other placers were Champion junior Rebecca Vann, runner-up junior Carmen Cruz, 3rd place freshman Hannah Demel, 3rd place junior Audrey Lockhart, and 4th place junior Leeana Trevino."
At the District meet, Coach Wood was voted District 2-6A Girls Coach of the Year.
The meet ended with new school records set with 11 Regional Qualifiers, three District Champion athletes, most points scored by a Frenship wrestling team with 135 points, the first Outstanding Wrestler Award, and a team District Championship all in only four years as a program.
