The Tigers secured the District Championship title after defeating Odessa High 12-3 last Friday and 7-1 on Saturday. They will celebrate their last home game on April 28 by recognizing their six seniors: Carson Heise, Ethan Curbo, Nick Blevins, Ryland Morin, Erik Koertner, and trainer Hailee Anguiano.
Frenship vs Odessa High Bronchos April 21-22 Recap
GAME 1
The Tigers defeated the Bronchos 12-3 on Friday thanks in part to Nano Mendoza who drove in five runners. Mendoza drove in runs on a home run in the second, a single in the fourth, and a home run in the fifth.
The Tigers took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Mendoza singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run and Santiago Sanchez’s sac fly scored one run for the Tigers.
The Tigers secured eight runs in the fifth inning. The offensive onslaught by the Tigers was led by Ethan Curbo, Brooks Roberson, Holden Phillips, Mendoza, Landon Hutcheson, and Brady Boles, all driving in runs in the inning.
Ryland Morin toed the rubber for Frenship. The lefthander went four innings, allowing three runs on two hits and striking out five.
Frenship launched two home runs on the day. Mendoza had a homer in the second and fifth innings.
The Tigers totaled 15 hits. Hutcheson, Mendoza, Curbo, and PHillips all managed multiple hits for the Tigers. Mendoza and Hutcheson each collected three hits to lead Frenship.
GAME 2
The Tigers scored four runs in the second on its way to a 7-1 victory over Odessa on Saturday. The offensive firepower by Frenship was led by Mendoza, Blaine Chancy, and Carson Heise, all driving in runs in the frame.
The Tigers fired up the offense in the first inning when Ethan Curbo hit into a fielder's choice, scoring one run.
Frenship notched four runs in the second inning. The offensive onslaught came from triples by Mendoza, Chancy, and home run by Heise.
Roberson was the winning pitcher for Frenship and allowed six hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out seven. Braxton Neel threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Frenship totaled 10 hits in the game. Heise and Hudson Hutcheson all collected multiple hits to lead the Tigers. Frenship was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Hutcheson made the most plays with nine.
