Frenship Orchestra Students Perform at All-Region Clinic

Starting each fall in auditions across Texas, the best high school orchestra students are ultimately selected to rehearse and perform during the annual TMEA All-Region Orchestra Clinic/Convention. This is the Frenship Orchestra program's inaugural year, where three students auditioned and were selected to perform with the all-region group.

The clinic took place from January 11 to January 13, and the concert was held at Monterey High School on Saturday, January 13. Students from TMEA Region 16 Orchestra and Band students participated, including students from Lubbock ISD, Lubbock Cooper ISD, Frenship ISD and smaller surrounding districts.

During the audition process, students are given several challenging excerpts to learn over the course of several weeks. They then attend a blind audition comprised of students from all over the Lubbock area. Each student performs the selected excerpts for a panel of five judges, and scores are compiled and students are ranked in order.

Frenship Orchestra Director, Darcy Radcliffe, stated that it’s an honor to win a position in the All-Region Orchestra because this shows that the students are highly skilled in their instruments and have a strong sense of musicality. “Students that make it into the orchestra have the opportunity to perform with other talented student musicians and to work with dynamic clinicians from other parts of the country.”
