Boys Soccer has Powerful Start to Season

The Boys Soccer team is striking the field with confidence. After a great tournament at West Texas A&M University the Tigers are feeling fired up. Head Boys Soccer Coach, Scott Smith, is happy with how the Tigers played.  

“We had a great performance from all of the players on our roster,” said Coach Smith.  

West Texas A&M Showcase Results 

  • Frenship defeats Dumas, 10-1 
  • Frenship defeats Perryton, 3-0 
  • Frenship defeats Palo Duro, 1-0 

Goals scored against the Dumas Demons include: Cooper Scott, Kellen Martin (4), Braden Anderson (3), Samuel Miller, and Peter De La Torre. Goals scored against the Perryton Rangers include: Samuel Miller, Kellen Martin, and Bryan Howell. Samuel Miller scored a penalty kick against the Palo Duro Dons in the final game of the showcase.  

At the showcase the Tigers caught the eyes of the West Texas A&M coaching staff. Cooper Scott had 4 assists and was honored with the All-Tournament Award for Most Assists. Kellen Martin had 5 goals and was honored with the All-Tournament Award for Most Goals. Mikah Saldana was selected as a defender for the All-Tournament Team. 

“The WT coaching staff were very impressed with our team's organization, and commented on how we have some very solid players,” said Coach Smith.  

The winning streak continued for the Tigers as they played Pampa at home on Wednesday, January 17. The final score against the Pampa Harvesters was 5-0. Goals scored included: Kellen Martin (3), Cooper Scott, and Braden Anderson. 

“Another great performance, and we had a much higher success rate in our chances converted,” said Coach Smith. “It's a great pleasure to work with such fine young men who listen and apply themselves in the best way they can.” 

The Boys Soccer Team so far has a record of 6-2 for the season. 

“Currently, Cooper Scott is leading the team in assists with 6, Kellen Martin is leading the team in goals with 13, and Ryan Pharies is leading the team in passing accuracy with a season success rate of 88%, and Brody Turner is leading the team in goalkeeping shutouts and passing.” 

Next, the Tigers play Snyder High School on Tuesday, January 23 in Snyder at 7:00 p.m.
