Student Athletic Trainers play a vital role in Frenship’s Athletic Program. These students come prepared and stay ready on the sidelines to keep athletes healthy and safe on the field or court.
The Frenship Sports Medicine team jumped at the chance to put their knowledge to the test at the West Texas Sports Medicine Society Symposium. The regional competition through the Texas State Athletic Trainers Association tests student athletic trainers in three different areas. The first part of the competition is a quiz bowl made up of random questions pertaining to the profession of athletic training. The second part of the competition is an ankle taping challenge, where students are graded on their quality of performance and time of completion. The last part is over anatomy of the body, where the students are asked to identify different muscles, bones, and joints.
Frenship placed 1st in the quiz bowl, and 3rd place overall at the competition. The Tigers will compete at the state competition at Tarleton State University in May.

- Jackson Hutchinson
- Jaiden Montoya
- Keeleigh Self
Frenship’s Head Athletic Trainer, Dustin Rush, is proud of how the students represented Frenship while at the competition. He believes that providing the student trainers with an opportunity to showcase their skills benefits their experience.
“We are extremely proud of our students. They put in work all year behind the scenes building on their knowledge and skill sets in athletic training,” said Rush. “Being student athletic trainers, our skills and knowledge often go under the radar, and this competition gives our crew the opportunity to showcase what they know.”
Rush is excited for the students to make school history in Sports Medicine.
“They finally have an opportunity to show their knowledge and skills in a competitive environment and will be the first group to do so in a sports medicine competition,” said Rush.
