You might recognize Katherine Dyal because we have been telling you about her impressive academic accomplishments since she became a National Merit Scholar semifinalist back in September of 2023. 

Along with over 1.3 million students nationwide, Katherine entered the National Merit Scholar program in 2023, found out she was a semifinalist in September 2023, and became a finalist in April 2024. 

Now, Katherine is one of only 7,140 students to be recognized as a National Merit Scholar. She adds to the list of National Merit Scholarship recipients from Frenship High School. 

About 160 colleges and universities currently underwrite approximately 3,800 National Merit Scholarships in each annual competition. Only finalists who plan to attend a college or university that sponsors Merit Scholarship awards can be considered for one. Winners are chosen by officials of the sponsoring college or university.  

She will be attending Michigan State University in the fall as a University Distinguished Scholar with plans to double-major in History and Russian.
