Our Frenship ISD students are buzzing with brilliance! Over 30 Frenship students competed at the annual District Spanish Spelling Bee, proving their knowledge is bee-yond impressive.
Each student was given a word to spell in Spanish and if they got that word correct, they would move on to the next round. If they got the word incorrect, they were eliminated. This process continued until there was one final student. The top five students and one alternate will all advance to the Regional Spanish Spelling Bee, hosted at Texas Tech on November 16th.
“We are extremely proud of our Dual Language students and their commitment in preparing for the Spanish Spelling Bee,” said Rachel Ramirez, Frenship ESL/Bilingual Specialists. “All the participants dedicated themselves to daily practice sessions over the past few weeks. The winners will continue to meet with their coach as they prepare for the Regional Competition at Texas Tech.”
At Willow Bend Elementary there were 17 students who competed in 15 intense rounds of spelling. Fifth-grade student, Gema Moreno took home the trophy for 1st place. Her winning word was, “argumentativo”.

Terra Vista Middle School had 14 total participants compete in 11 rounds. Sixth-grade student, Guadalupe Reyes took home first place. His winning word was “conversación.”

Ramirez feels that the Spanish Spelling Bee offers students a powerful opportunity to embrace their Hispanic heritage and proudly share it with others.
“The Spanish Spelling Bee is important for students in the Dual Language program because this provides students an opportunity to share a part of their culture and identity,” said Ramirez.
Frenship ISD would like to commend all the students who participated in the Spanish Spelling Bee as well as the community and educators.
