This past weekend, the Frenship High School Marching Band traveled to Odessa to compete in the UIL Area 6A Marching Contest. The band faced off against 13 schools from across West Texas, all vying for a top two finish to qualify for the state competition. The competition included other 6A schools from Lubbock, San Angelo, Midland, Odessa, and El Paso.
The Frenship band excelled during their performance titled “Zoom-Zoom”. The show encompasses the speed and excitement of Formula 1 racing with four musical movements including “The Starting Line”, “The Race Begins”, “Pit Stop”, and “Final Lap – Victory Lane”.
At the end of the competition, Frenship secured one of the top two spots and advanced to the state competition. The UIL 6A State Marching Contest will be held on Monday and Tuesday, November 11-12, in the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas.
This marks the Frenship Marching Band’s 11th appearance at the State Marching Contest, dating back to 1999. Scott Carter, Frenship High School Band Director, shared the students' excitement for the upcoming competition.
“The Frenship Band has a long tradition of excellence,” said Carter. “We are so excited to once again be representing Frenship ISD at the state level. Our students are elated to have the opportunity to perform on the biggest stage and be a part of history.”
The students and staff are continuing to work hard to perfect all aspects of the marching production. At this point in the season, they are cleaning details in the marching and visual parts of the show as well as perfecting the music.
“Pushing to the end of a very long competitive season is a testament to the resilience of the students and their desire to compete at the state level,” said Carter.
At the state contest, the Frenship band will face 40 6A bands in the preliminary competition at State. After the prelims are completed, the top 14 will advance to the Finals on Tuesday afternoon. From those 14, the state champion will be crowned.
Carter, along with the other band teachers, emphasized the depth of the students' accomplishments.
“We are so proud of our students who understand that achieving a goal by having a great work ethic, resilience, and a commitment to excellence, is worth it,” said Carter. “It’s just a validation of their incredible ability to push through long days of rehearsal, incredibly hard music, and maintaining the mental fortitude to create something special. We are so proud of what they have accomplished!”
Congratulations Frenship Marching Band! Good luck at state!
