Frenship High School Makes a Mark at Regional Art Contest

Frenship High School art students have been working hard all year designing, creating, and submitting artwork for the Visual Arts Scholastic Events competition, referred to as VASE. The Region 17 VASE event was held last month, where nine Frenship artworks were selected to attend the state event.

Frenship High School art students have invested countless hours and creativity into bringing their artistic visions to life for the VASE Competition. The competition, sponsored by the Texas Art Education Association, provides young artists with the opportunity to showcase their talent at the regional and state levels. At the recent Region 17 VASE event, nine Frenship artworks were selected to advance to the prestigious state competition.

The regional contest featured artwork from students across 23 schools, with a total of 457 entries. The VASE competition is unique in that it allows students to compete on a level that is based on the number of art classes they have taken. Division 1 participants are those in their first art class, ensuring that students compete against others with similar experience.

At the regional contest, 40 pieces were selected to represent the region at the State Event. An impressive nine works of art by Frenship students will advance to the state level. These talented students will travel to San Marcos on April 24 to compete against student artists from all over Texas.

"The VASE competition is an amazing event for the students at FHS,” said Joey MacLean, the Frenship High School Visual Arts Coordinator. “It provides extra motivation for our students to push themselves as they strive for excellence. The entire art department is proud of all the students that put in the extra work to compete."
