Tiger Volleyball Stays Hot, Wins Five of Six in Home Tourney

The Frenship volleyball team continued its strong start to the 2018 season by winning five of six matches to finish in the top four teams at the 32-team Frenship Tournament last weekend. The Tigers won their first five matches in impressive fashion before falling to eventual champion Decatur in the semifinals.

FHS breezed through Friday’s pool play games with consecutive straight-set victories over Abilene Cooper (25-10, 25-10), Big Spring (25-10, 25-10) and Lubbock Monterey (25-16, 25-17).

Emma Davila led the team in kills during all three matches with a total of 16 kills. Hannah Page, Emily Jones and Seuzette Simpson proved solid leading the team in digs, and the trio of Simpson, Reagan Snuggs and Kayton Genenbacher led the way in assists. Caroline Kerr added six aces on the day.

The Tigers opened Saturday’s gold bracket play with a great comeback victory over Plainview 25-27, 25-10, 25-20. Jones, Davila and Haley Poe all provided seven kills in the win. Simpson added 16 digs and 15 assists.

That win led to a match with Canyon High, a team FHS beat three four days earlier in Canyon. Saturday’s result was more of the same as the Tigers won 25-15, 25-16. Davila led the team with eight kills.

Despite falling to Decatur 19-25, 25-18, 13-25 in the semifinals, FHS showed their grit pushing the Eagles to a three-set match. Page led the way with 20 digs and Snuggs added 12 assists.

The Tigers (16-8) are winners of 14 of their last 15 matches. They are back on the court Tuesday night hosting Trinity Christian. The varsity match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start at the Tiger Pit.
