It did not take long for offensive firepower to make a return in 2018 for the Frenship Tigers. Unfortunately, the same could be said for their week one opponent in Amarillo.
In a back-and-forth shootout that saw the two teams trade the lead six different times, the Sandies were able to hold off the Tigers and come away with a 48-41 victory.
The Tigers ended the night with 725 yards of offense – 609 of those through the air. Senior quarterback Austin Phillips completed 49 of 66 passes with three touchdowns, and Skyler Newsome, Drew Hocutt and Cooper Scott all racked up more than 100 yards of receiving on the night. William Bayouth also added 71 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Colton Anderson hauled in an interception to the lead the Tiger defense.
Frenship plays their home opener this Friday hosting Wichita Falls Hirschi. This Friday’s contest marks the first time the Tigers and Huskies will battle on the gridiron. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Peoples Bank Stadium in Wolfforth.
