The Tiger football team ran into the hottest team in District 2-6A to open up league play last Friday, and the visiting Midland Lee Rebels lived up to their early success and beat the Tigers 51-15 in both teams’ district opener.
Skyler Newsome had a big night for FHS with two touchdowns of more than 80 yards. On the first, a trick play, fellow receiver Jordan Maden caught a lateral pass from quarterback Jess Hoel and then connected with Newsome downfield for an 80-yard score. Newsome would strike again in the third quarter thanks to a perfectly thrown ball from Hoel that led to an 83-yard TD.
Colton Brown added fireworks early for the Tigers with the return a blocked extra point for a two-point conversion.
FHS (3-3, 0-1) is back on the road this Friday when the Tigers travel to Midland High. Kickoff from Grande Communications Stadium in Midland is at 7:30 p.m.
