Tiger Football Falls to Permian 38-10

The Frenship Tigers had the highly-favored and district leading Permian Panthers on their heels for much of the first half during MOJO’s senior night Friday night at Ratliff Stadium.

In the end, the Panthers proved too much and came out with a 38-10 victory to stay unbeaten in District 2-6A.

FHS used strong defense and a wide variety of trick plays to build a 10-7 lead midway through the second quarter. On the Panthers opening drive, the Tiger D forced and recovered a fumble to set up the offense with good field position. On fourth down, quarterback Jake Sherrard threw a lateral pass to Drew Hocutt who then threw it back to Sherrard for a long gain. The drive soon ended with a Cage Jones 22-yard field goal to give FHS a 3-0 lead.

After the Panthers scored on a 16-play drive, FHS answered with more trickery. On third down from the Panther 14, Sherrard hit a wide-open Evan Barbosa who had lined up as a tackle-eligible receiver. The successful trick play gave the Tigers a 10-7 lead.

Ed Williams led the Permian rushing attack with three touchdowns on the night.

The Tigers (3-6, 0-4) conclude the 2018 season on Friday night when the team plays host to Tascosa. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. from Peoples Bank Stadium.

Friday’s game also marks senior night for the football players, trainers, cheerleaders, pom squad, bell crew and band members.
